Orange County remains under an NWS Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, with inland highs forecast at 95–105°F; record temperatures set Oct. 2–3 (Santa Ana 107, Anaheim 105) stand as the event's peak so far, and no new alerts or extensions have been reported as of Oct. 4.

A long-duration offshore (east) wind and high-pressure pattern produced a classic early-fall heat dome over Southern California, driving temperatures well above historical records for the date.
Orange County continues under an Extreme Heat Warning issued by NWS San Diego, valid through 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026. The warning has been in effect since 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2. As of the latest NWS update (9:40 p.m. Oct. 3), inland areas are forecast to reach 95–105°F with warm overnight lows in the 70s. Coastal beach communities are forecast in the mid 80s to low 90s, while inland coastal terrain climbs into the mid 90s to around 100°F.
The Wind Advisory for Orange County inland areas that ran 6 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, has expired. No Red Flag Warning has been issued for OC zones during this event. No extension of the Extreme Heat Warning has been reported as of Oct. 4.
Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 each produced record-breaking highs at multiple stations. Saturday, Oct. 3 was the most extreme day: Santa Ana reached 107°F (old record 102 in 2014; records since 1906), Anaheim hit 105°F (old 103 in 2014), Fullerton Airport logged 105°F at 12:36 p.m. (old 103 in 2014), and Newport Beach reached 94°F (old 91 in 1958). On Friday, Oct. 2, Santa Ana hit 105°F (old 101 in 1945) and Anaheim 103°F (old 101 in 2020); Newport Beach tied its 1945 record at 85°F.
The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) rated inland Orange County fire danger High for both Oct. 3 and Oct. 4. The combination of extreme heat, low relative humidity, and offshore east winds on Oct. 3 created a classic early-fall fire-weather setup, though no ignitions have been reported in connection with this event.
Cooling centers are open across the county. The City of Santa Ana opened its libraries, community centers, and senior centers beginning Oct. 1, including the Delhi Branch Library (505 E. Central Ave.) and Newhope Library (122 N. Newhope St.); hours are posted at the Santa Ana city site. Garden Grove opened its Sports and Recreation Center (13641 Deodara Drive, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.) and H. Louis Lake Senior Center (11300 Stanford Avenue). Huntington Beach opened the Edison Community Center (21377 Magnolia Street) and Central Library (7111 Talbert Avenue, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.).
The OC Health Care Agency issued a hot-weather alert Oct. 1 warning of highs in the upper 90s to low 100s through Oct. 7 and urging residents to check on older adults and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.
The Extreme Heat Warning is scheduled to expire at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. No extension or new alerts have been reported as of the last update. Residents should monitor NWS San Diego and the OC HHS Heat Safety page for any changes to the advisory timeline or cooling center availability.
