Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Aimee Alexis Hidalgo, 28, is awaiting trial after entering a not-guilty plea on Sept. 11, 2026, to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter with a firearm-use enhancement (case 26CF1300). She remains free on bail. The next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2026; the court has set a November deadline for a pre-sentence report.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5:10–5:20 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2025, in the studio the couple shared at the Axiom apartments on the 13000 block of Tustin East Drive in Tustin. According to prosecutors, Ring camera footage shows Shaw leaving to walk the dog and returning roughly ten minutes later. Seconds after she re-entered, Hidalgo allegedly fired nine rounds, striking Shaw in the torso, right arm, and head. The fatal head wound was inflicted from fewer than eight inches, according to the OCDA. Hidalgo called 911 and performed CPR. Prosecutors allege Hidalgo told police she mistook Shaw for an intruder — a claim that is the prosecution's allegation, not a judicial finding.

Hidalgo joined OCSD in 2021 and was assigned to the Orange County Jail. Shaw, 35, worked in Correctional Health at the same facility. The couple had planned a destination wedding in Mexico for November 2025.

The OCDA filed the voluntary manslaughter charge on March 9, 2026. A conviction on the single count, with the firearm enhancement, carries a maximum of 21 years in state prison. Hidalgo was placed on administrative leave upon charging.

At the Sept. 11 arraignment, approximately 40 members of Shaw's family attended court. Shaw's sister, Janaea Parrish, told reporters the family wants first- or second-degree murder charges: "You don't shoot someone nine times on accident." As of this writing, the OCDA has not publicly indicated it will revise the charge.

The Oct. 9 hearing will be the next public proceeding. No trial date has been set. The family's push for a murder charge upgrade and any OCDA response remain the primary open questions.
