The civil case arising from OCSD Deputy Jeremiah Peyus's Dec. 29, 2023 crash at 17th Street and Grand Avenue in Santa Ana remains on track for a September 2026 trial. No new filings or trial-date changes have been reported as of the last refresh (Sept. 6, 2026).

Dashcam footage released Aug. 18, 2026 as part of civil discovery — and first reported by NBC4 — shows Peyus's patrol vehicle traveling at approximately 65 mph in what is nominally a 35 mph zone. The vehicle had no emergency lights or siren activated and was not engaged in a pursuit. Peyus's partner, riding along at the time, testified in deposition that the two were searching for a place to eat dinner.

Santa Ana Police Department investigators, who handled the collision report, found Peyus at fault for unsafe speed. The Orange County District Attorney's office confirmed it never received the case because no criminal allegation was submitted. OCSD has stated that internal discipline was administered but has not disclosed its nature. As of the most recent reporting (ABC7, Aug. 23, 2026), Peyus remains on full active duty.

Megan Doan, 28, and Jan Tan, 27, both of Garden Grove, were in the vehicle struck by Peyus. According to prior reporting, both sustained multiple fractures and required surgeries.

The civil trial is the primary remaining accountability mechanism. No criminal charges have been filed and none appear imminent based on available evidence. Court filings, jury selection, or any pre-trial settlement would mark the next significant developments.
