83-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed at Portola Parkway and Market Place in Lake Forest; Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI
An 83-year-old Lake Forest man was struck and killed near Portola Parkway and Market Place about 8 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2026; the driver, Sean Micheal Kooklin, 48, of Lake Forest, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into Orange County Jail. Collision occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026. OCSD issued its public release on Sept. 11. No charges had been filed as of Sept. 15.
OCSD arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence; the formal cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team.
The OCSD Major Accident Investigation Team is continuing its investigation into the Sept. 10, 2026 fatal pedestrian collision at Portola Parkway and Market Place in Lake Forest. As of Sept. 15, no criminal charges had been filed by the Orange County District Attorney's office. No new developments have been reported since the initial OCSD release.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, deputies responded to a collision at Portola Parkway and Market Place in Lake Forest. An 83-year-old man from the area — KTLA reported he was walking at the time — was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to a hospital with severe injuries and later pronounced dead.
The driver, identified as Sean Michael Kooklin, 48, of Lake Forest, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked into Orange County Jail.
The OCSD Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the case. The victim's name was withheld pending next-of-kin notification. No OCDA charges had been announced as of Sept. 15, 2026.
