Sysillia Kianna Morrison Montes De Oca, 22, of Costa Mesa, stands convicted following an Orange County jury verdict on Sept. 10, 2026. She faces sentencing on three felonies — gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run causing permanent and serious injury, and failing to stop at a hit-and-run with injury or death — plus an enhancement for fleeing the scene of a vehicular manslaughter. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 13, 2026, according to the Orange County Register.

On Aug. 11, 2022, at approximately 9:38 p.m., Isaacs and his wife Catherina were crossing South Coast Highway at Pearl Street in a marked, lighted crosswalk after an anniversary dinner at Ristorante Rumari when they were struck by a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. Isaacs sustained an internal decapitation, skull fracture, severed spine, and crushed ribs; he died of his injuries. His wife suffered moderate injuries.

According to Deputy District Attorney Justin Kim, Montes De Oca — who was 18 at the time — had used marijuana that evening and told passengers she planned to speed up before the impact. After the collision, prosecutors said she returned to the scene, searched online about fatal hit-and-runs, and hid the Jetta in an Aliso Viejo garage. She surrendered to police on Aug. 12, 2022.

The case moves to a sentencing hearing set for Nov. 13, 2026. This page will be updated when a sentence is imposed.
