The investigation into the death of Cal State Fullerton freshman Anthony Blas, 18, of Whittier remains open as of late September 2026. No charges have been announced. The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner has not yet released a final determination of cause and manner of death. A Fullerton PD patrol check was logged at the 3200 block of Associated Road — the area identified by police as the gathering location — on the morning of Sept. 28, 2026, consistent with continued law enforcement attention to the site.

Blas attended a large gathering the night of Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, near Associated Road and Milton Avenue in Fullerton, connected to a Delta Chi group that is not recognized by Cal State Fullerton. Around 12:07 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, he was transported to St. Jude Medical Center and dropped off unresponsive. He was pronounced dead there. No 911 call was placed from the house prior to his being brought to the hospital.

Fullerton PD Sgt. Ryan O'Neil has stated that alcohol consumption appears to have contributed to Blas' death, that hazing is not considered a factor, and that no foul play is suspected. The family, according to CBS LA, disputes the no-hazing finding and believes the unrecognized Delta Chi group is connected. Attorney Jon Fazzola publicly questioned the no-foul-play conclusion.

Delta Chi has been unrecognized by Cal State Fullerton since April 2021 — through at least January 2029 — for alcohol, drug, and hazing violations. Delta Chi's national organization states it does not recognize a Fullerton chapter. The absence of a 911 call from the house draws a direct parallel to the 2019 death of CSUF freshman Bea Castro under similar circumstances.

The sheriff-coroner's office will formally determine cause and manner of death. No criminal charges have been filed. A GoFundMe for the Blas family had raised approximately $4,100 of a $10,000 goal as of Sept. 26, 2026. The university has not publicly announced any new disciplinary or policy actions in response to this incident.
